It
was Petrarch in the 14th century who advocated the country house
as a place of rest and repose, starting the fashion for beautiful
houses set in the hills, away from the heat of the city.
The Villa Boccella, built in 1729, is a very fine example of such
architecture. The estate, with its vineyards and olive groves,
still produces its own wine and oil.
Over the past few years Boccella has been sympathetically renovated
to provide accommodation that is comfortably furnished in the
charming Tuscan style. With the provision of several meeting /sitting
rooms, it can accommodate study groups and lends itself particularly
well to courses on the history of art, the Renaissance, painting
or cookery.
Since we have taken care not to lose the feel of a family home,
the Boccella is also ideal for a reunion of friends or family
and, with its extensive grounds and swimming pool, is a wonderful
place for children.
There are four other buildings on the estate that can be rented
with accommodation numbers in brackets: Boccellina (11), The Dependence
(20) Limonia Piccola (6), and Limonia Grande (10).
